March, 2008

So the match failed, which totally sucks, but before you go thinking that the birthmother changed her mind, that wasn't it. This was not our baby. The reasons are personal, so we ain't sharing, but the baby is well cared for and probably already placed as we speak.

So now what? Well, we know for sure we want another kids, and we are more comfortable with international adoption, so we are heading back to Central Asia to adopt a baby from Kyrgyzstan. It's a small program in a small country, so we aren't exactly sure how long things will take, but it should be sufficiently crazy-making, in a way that only International Adoption can be, that reading this site will be good and entertaining for a while.

Bonus's of adoption from Kyrgyzstan:

- ethnically this child will be from a similar or even the same group as Kai  and Grace.

- the kids will all be born within a 6 hour drive of eachother.

- we are familiar and comfortable with the region

- we get to see Aida when we go through Almaty!!!!!

Negatives of adoption from Kyrgyzstan:

- it's a poor country, poorer than Kazakhstan and that is reflected in the orphanage care.

- Bishkek is pretty funky, but that doesn't really matter since we'll only be there for 2 week stints.

- the program is new but growing fast and we may get caught in some growing pains.

- we will have to leave all those other kids behind. Most of them, of course, are not available for adoption, but it is still hard to walk away.

So, stay tuned for more frequent updates and in the meantime, here is some eye candy. Enjoy!

Kai's 4th Birthday.
Sacajawea and Psycho Boy.
Gratuitous cuteness.
Like your kids don't have bright orange ski helmets? These also feature flashing blue lights on the back. Makes for excellent spotting on the slopes, or as in this picture, astronaut helmets for a cardboard rocketship.
Makela, Lucia and Gracie.
Grace smiles, Izzy snarles.
Talis. Tally-bo. I freaking love this kid!
Getting ready for a group picture.
Just missing Izzy....
Ah, there she is, if only she would stay put.
6 kids from 3 couples in 4 years. Not bad.
Jumping off the windowsill, 'cause that's how we roll here. And yes, our daughter DID dress herself like a prison inmate, thanks for noticing!
Jump on Kai and tickle him, otherwise what's the point of having him outnumbered 5 girls to 1 boy?
The interestingly clothed crowd.
The moms, Perky, Kristi and me.
All of us, but the camera decided to crap out on this shot, hence the funky lines. Sorry.
Stay tuned for updates..........
