April:
Wow! That is one long trip home!!! Sorry it has taken us so long to post this page, but the jetlag and exhaustion is kicking our butts. Zach is already in bed, and I am not far behind him!
We left our apartment in Almaty at 12:45am, after having woken Kai up from a deep sleep. We headed to the airport where we said our good-byes to Gulnara and Emil and headed through customs (where we only had to pay the guy a $10 "gift" to get through).
There were quite a few WPA'ers on the flight and the kids were great. Kai had one meltdown but then slept for so few hours which was good because that was pretty much the last sleep he got until Vermont. He was up and cheery in Frankfurt. On the second flight he was great, until we would try to get him to sleep, then he would cry like his heart was breaking. He was so tired he didn't know what to do. But we all survived, made it through US customs where they made him a citizen, got all our bags and went to meet mom and Polly. Lots of tears and hugs and kisses and we were on the road headed for home.
We were all completely exhausted at this point, but we perked up for a joyfull reunion with the dogs! It was so wonderful to see them and cuddle them and get our faces licked clean by them. They have all been really sweet with Kai, but I think they think he is just visiting. Kai didn't pay too much attention to them last night he was too tired, but this morning he was fascinated. Sabrina, the one I thought would be the least impressed by the fact that we came home with a baby, gave him the sweetest little kisses on his cheek this afternoon. I think in a few days she will be guarding his bedroom door while he sleeps. The cats are a little less sure about the baby!
My mom cooked up a feast for us last night, but I was too tired to make it through so at 7:30, I headed to bed. Zach stayed up a little longer. Kai woke up for his bottle at 11:00, and again at 2:am. He played for a little while at 2am, then talked to himself for a while and fell asleep a little before for. Then he slept until 8:30am! All day, he hasn't been able to stay awake for longer than 1 1/2 hours. He took a 4 hour nap, that could have lasted longer if I hadn't woken him up. .He'll get on the right schedule eventually.
We had friends and lots of family stop by today which was really fun. Everybody loved Kai and he was happy to see all the friendly faces. We are being so well fed and pampered these days, it's going to be a rude awakening when it's back to just us. Oh well, real life has to start sometime. I am about to fall asleep on the keyboard, so that's it for tonight. Thanks everybody for following along! We will post weekly from now on for those interested in Kai's progress and adjustment. Your support has made this such a wonderful experience for us, we can't thank you enough!!!
Love to you all!
